Planning approval received for extension and internal alterations to conservation cottage

doma architects were asked to reorganise and extend a family home in a North Yorkshire village. Following numerous conversations with our client (and her two very excited little girls!) we designed a new home that provides a master bedroom, a bedroom each for the girls, a separate study and a new family bathroom at first floor level, with a large open plan kitchen and dining space, with a new utility and rear entrance area at ground level.

Faced with the constraints with working with a 19th century cottage in a conservation area, we designed the new elements to the external facade to enhance the existing. Our proposal sees the 1970s flat roof extension partly concealed behind a new gabled extension to the rear of the cottage.

Planning approval was achieved at the end of March, and we are starting works on site on Monday!

Below are a few images of the proposals. We will keep you posted on our progress on site!
